When faced with huge life challenges, some ask, “What’s the point of living?” Here are 5 reasons that challenges are good for us:
1. Challenges help us to appreciate the good
Challenges give us perspective on what good times are. How can we understand the eases of life if we haven’t faced hardship?
I used to work in a very stressful job, working late hours and feeling overwhelmed. Now that I am not in that job, I appreciate less stressful jobs more.
2. Challenges lead you to spiritual freedom
Challenges eventually will teach us how to choose inner peace in all situations. Unshakable inner peace is gained by facing challenges. Being able to stay in peace in any situation is freedom.
My emotional state used to be totally dependent on outer circumstances. Once I learned to remember God in all situations, I gained a continual inner peace that feels so free.
3. Challenges Lead You to Your Higher Self
Challenges purify the soul. They build character and teach us lessons about ourselves that we couldn’t learn any other way.
God taught me through challenges how to be the master and observer of my mind. I learned to be the leader of my thoughts rather than let my thoughts take control. This is one of the most important skills I have learned in life.
4. Challenges Bring us Closer to God
Without challenges, we become absorbed in this world. We feel self-sufficient and invincible. Challenges remind us of our need for God. They remind us of our vulnerability and that this world is not our goal.
Our hardest times are when we turn to God the most.
5. Challenges Make You More Beneficial to Humanity
Challenges help us to understand others’ suffering. When we overcome challenges, we gain experience that we can use to help others. Challenges lead us to our life purpose.
I wrote two books after facing the most challenging years of my life. I currently work in helping fields that bring me true fulfillment. Challenges are gifts in disguise.
