Ah! The Best Way One Could Live!

What is there for me to do?

I leave the matter all to You.

Maybe I won’t do a thing

And let You do everything!

To do anything why should I care?

Why should I such a burden bear?

Why should I this trouble assume?

Most foolish it would be, I presume.

Why should I any such effort make,

When all deeds You can undertake?

If what some claim is indeed true,

That all beings are just forms of You,

Then every time they appear to act,

It’s all done by You alone in fact.

The only thing is they don’t know,

For You’ve arranged this to be so

For the sake of a drama most grand

Which You aeons ago had planned,

And which You stage till this day,

To amuse Yourself, simply to play.

So, it maybe (I hope I’m not wrong)

That we’ve been mistaken all along

In thinking that any deed we can do

When the Sole Doer is You.

If I’m right in thinking this way

Then maybe one can firmly say:

“All deeds that have ever been done,

Every happening under the sun,

The doer thereof has always been You,

You doing thereby what You want to.”

So, what I want here to say

Is: Please have Your own way,

Use this body and this mind

That You gave me, being so kind,

Do through them as You please,

From the illusion of doing grant me release.

Then a mere witness I can be

Of all You will to do through me.

Oh what great joy that would give!

Ah! The best way one could live!
