How Can We Be Sure That God Exists?

How can we be sure that God exists?

Stop for a moment. Look around you, and you will see magic everywhere. Look at the beautiful sunrise that starts your morning. Think, what caused the singing of the birds? What caused the swaying of the trees and the whistling in the breeze? What caused the sun to glow, the water to flow and the wind to blow?

Stop for a moment and look at the sun, the moon, the stars, the birds, the animals, the flowers. Ask yourself, ‘How did all this beauty come about?

Stop for a moment and ponder upon all the beautiful people that you know and love.

All this is magical!

For any magic to happen, there must be a magician. Now, who is that Magician who has brought about all the magic we see all around us? Where is that Magician? What is that Magician? We don’t know who, what and where that Magician is, but we do know for sure that there is a Magician, because we can see magic all around us, from which we can be absolutely sure that there is indeed a Magician behind it all.

Have you ever watched a beautiful sunset? Have you ever got the chance to savour the beauty of turquoise waters on white sands? Have you stopped to appreciate birds flying in the sky? Have you ever seen how amazingly fish swim in the water? Have you ever had the chance to pat a dog that wags its tail? Have you ever gazed upon a flower, and sometimes if you look deep, there is a flower within the flower? Have you stopped to do any of these things? Or, are you so busy that you just run, run and run, until one day life will be done and you will keep asking this question, ‘How can we be sure that God exists?’

Look at the clouds. What makes the clouds sway, day after day? What makes the earth rotate around its axis precisely once in 24 hours? What makes the earth revolve around the sun, which leads to the change of seasons? Who does all this magic? Who controls everything that happens on Earth? Who controls our death and birth? Who is this Magician, that we call ‘God’?

Unfortunately, the name ‘God’ has been misunderstood. It has been wrongly defined. It has been grossly misinterpreted, and so, we don’t know the meaning of ‘God’. We don’t know who God is, where God is, what God is, and so, we question the very existence of the God who created us, who created the mountains and the trees, who created the butterflies and the bees, who created you and me.

Some people say, ‘Oh, all this happened by a Big Bang!’ What, all this beauty that we see around us happened by a Big Bang! Even if some people insist it did happen so, then let them think about who created that Big Bang. Who created what they call this Big Bang that, according to them, created all this magic?

Reflect on the fact that an average human being has some 30 trillion cells in their body. We have eyes, ears, a nose, a tongue. We have skin that can sense. We have feet that can walk and a mouth that can talk. Who created this? Who created all this magic inside of us? Who is that Magician who makes us breathe, who makes us eat? Who is that Magician who makes us live, until one day He decides we must go, that it’s the end of the show?

The next time you wonder how we can be sure that God exists, look at all the magic around you and your doubts will come to rest. You will realize you don’t need to question or doubt the existence of the Magician we call ‘God’.
