I Don’t Know Why You Sent Me Here

As far as I can recall,

I didn’t ask You at all

To send me down to Earth,

And here take human birth.

Perhaps You simply willed it so,

That to this plane I must go,

For a reason known only to You,

And there was nothing I could do

To change this Your decree

That You passed concerning me.

I don’t know why You sent me here.

About this issue I’m quite unclear.

Nearly six decades have gone by,

And still You haven’t told me why.

I hope You’ll soon explain it to me,

Thereby satisfying my curiosity,

Unravelling thus the mystery

Of why You made me here to be,

For, no matter how hard I may try,

I just can’t seem to fathom why.

I’ll have to wait if some day

This reason to me You’ll say.

Oh, how very nice it would be

If You would kindly inform me.

My urge to know please set at rest

If You know it’s for my best.

But even if the reason You don’t tell,

Please make me live my life well,

So that, on the whole, I will

This hidden reason well fulfill,

And so, without Your having told it to me

I’d know why You sent me here intuitively.
