I’m just my own self, I insist,
And as long as I live, I will persist
In defining myself as just me,
For, that's how I want to be.
I’ll be this way till the end,
From this stance, I’ll never bend.
I'll continue to be this way
No matter what you might say.
I refuse the labels you seek to impose.
I won’t accept a single one of those,
Labels based on culture, class and religion,
Gender, race and geographical location.
All these labels and more I firmly decline.
They might be yours but certainly not mine.
Clinging to them, your true self you forgot,
Imagining yourself to be what you're not,
Losing in this way all sense of your reality:
Now, isn’t that a clear sign of insanity?
It definitely is, and so I must tell you
That I refuse to do as you want me to.
I’ll be just myself, happy being that way,
And I’ll continue being so till my last day.
A rose is always a rose, it can never ever become a lilly or Jasmine. You are right. I can feel the fragrance and beauty. Great, well written, congratulations and best wishes ❤️
