Now That I've Met You

I’ve now met You, so what need
Do I have any longer to read
Any book supposedly about You,
Not being sure if it’s false or true?
When I can commune with You in my heart,
Why from this should I ever depart
By seeking You in some book instead?
No! I refuse any longer to be so misled.
No longer shall I continue to look
For You in some voluminous book,
Feeling obliged to believe each word,
Even things evil or patently absurd,
Fanciful tales and downright lies,
Gross falsehood in 'holy' disguise.
Not everything that those books say
Is wrong, leading people astray.
They could contain truths, I agree.
Precious guidance for humanity.
But not all their claims might be
Valid and acceptable ethically.
So, there’s no need that I should
Consider them fully true and good.
If anything about You I wish to know
I can directly ask You, isn’t it so?
For that, what need have I to look
In this or that acclaimed book?
Knowing You versus reading about You:
How very different are these two!
