So, Are You the Cause of All This?

What terrible chaos in Your Name!

For aeons maybe it’s been the same.

About who You are such major confusion,

In Your Name such deadening delusion,

With each declaring that they are

The best way there’s to You by far,

Some boastingly claiming to be

Your only favoured path for humanity.

Down to our day they continue to fight,

Deriving from this a perverse delight.

Oh what evil, what horrors obscene,

Your world in Your Name has seen!

Of course, all this You very well know,

There’s no need for me to tell You so,

But I ask You to please share with me

How You feel when all this You see.

I myself feel awful, sick to the core,

Could it be (though I can’t be sure)

That perhaps You think differently

About all this seeming insanity?

All the horrors done in Your Name.

Is this all just a part of Your game,

A game that with Yourself You play,

Perhaps simply to while time away,

Just as maybe You cause all else to be

In this Your universe of such immensity?

If so, did You will this madness to be,

All this confusion about Your identity,

With all the horrors that it’s led to?

Has this all been decreed by You?

If You wanted us to know who You are

Would You allow this confusion bizarre?

The many conflicting claims about You:

Would they be had You not wanted them to?

Is it that You’ve made this chaos to be

The inescapable fate of humanity?

Forgive me if I wrongly speculate,

But I care for humankind’s fate,

And so, I feel awful when I think

Of the depths to which men can sink,

The evils to which they can descend

While Your Name claiming to defend.

How differently humans would have fared

If confusion about You they'd been spared!

Being all-powerful, surely You could

Have made Yourself clearly understood.

Perhaps then human beings would not

Have in Your name so viciously fought.

Forgive me if this is a wrong hypothesis,

But is it that You're the cause of all this?
