The Suspense of the Next Moment

The suspense of the next moment

Can be a great torment.

We don't know what it might bring.

It could be just about anything.

What’ll happen the next moment we don’t know,

This not knowing can seem vexing, truly so.

 Are we condemned to be anxious this way,

All through life, every single day,

Fretting about what the future might hold,

About how the next moment might unfold?

Is there, one wonders, any way out

So that we can put this anxiety to rout?

There indeed is, and only one way,

It's as the wise would say,

And that is, to give the next moment to God,

(It’s the best thing in this regard we can afford),

And then cheerfully accept what might transpire,

(Not demanding that it must happen as per our desire

But only as God wills the next moment to be).

If we do this, from worry we can be set free.

It is God who brings each moment, one by one,

So, in the next moment, let His will alone be done,

The next moment is part of His cosmic play

So, let Him do with it just as He may.

Whatever might happen the next moment, let it be so,

Cast the burden of it on God and then go with the flow.

 Lord, each new moment You might write in my fate,

May it unfold just as You might dictate,

Handle it as You want, for it’s Yours, not mine,

May it turn out to be just as You will define.

Letting the next moment happen as per Your intention

Will relieve me of the burden of great tension.

So, Lord, my next moment I offer into Your hands,

Please do with it as You want, according to Your plans.
