Until Then, Focus Instead on This Present Life of Ours

Theories about what’s called the ‘afterlife’ abound.

There are a great many of them circulating around,

Their votaries champion them with great conviction,

Although no one truly knows if they’re fact or fiction.

None of these theories can I affirm or deny.

I just can’t say if they are really true or a lie,

Since what happens after death I haven’t yet seen,

And to any post-death realm I haven’t yet been.

Because of this, I’m compelled to clearly say

That, as far as I know, there’s just no logical way

For me to be sure what happens after we die,

And where we might go then, and how and why.

People are most anxious, keenly wanting to know

What happens when from this earthly plane we go.

But this is a secret that our Maker has concealed,

And it’s only after we die that it will be revealed.

So, be patient, for it’s something we just can’t know

Till from this earthly realm we're finally made to go.

Until then, let’s focus instead on this present life of ours,

Spending as best we can its years, months, days and hours.

That way, we can hope that if after we die, we still remain

We might be in a good place, free from all fear and pain.
