What if Freewill is an Illusion?

What if the freewill we hold so dear

Turns out to be an illusion mere,

And that all that we think we do

Is actually done only by You,

That every deed that is done,

The doer thereof is just one:

You, being the one behind

Action of every sort and kind?

This seems to make sense to me,

For else how can it possibly be

That one can convincingly explain

The bare fact of immense pain

That’s so pervasive all around,

With which Your world does abound?

I’m not at all sure if it’s true

That the Doer of all deeds is You.

Unless You tell me I can’t know.

But I do hope it’s indeed so,

For only then I might agree

That Your world makes sense to me.
