Without Any Labels to This Earth I Came

They tried to stuff me into their little box

And seal it tightly with heavy padlocks,

But I refused to give my consent

And firmly voiced my dissent.

I simply threw off the box’s lid.

Believe me, I did that, yes I did!

I said to them, “Now, please listen,

I refuse to be locked in your mental prison.

I’m myself, I'm just plain me,

It’s so very clear to see.

I came into this world just that way,

And intend to remain so till my last day.

I reject all the labels that you so love,

And which on others you seek to shove.

Your forcing people into a little box

Is a terrible disease, a deadly pox,

Causing through history much grief and strife,

Exacting a terrible toll of precious life.

Into your box I refuse to fit,

I just won’t agree to it.

I’m simply me, myself, with no label,

Accept this, please, if you are able

To see beyond labels to what is true

About who we really are, me and you.

If you do that, you might then find

That we’re Spirit, not body or mind.

Spirit has no such identity

As race, religion or territory,

Class, caste or ethnicity,

Sexuality, gender or species,

No! Spirit is none of these!

It’s simply Spirit, from all labels free.

That’s what we all are, it’s our reality.

So, into your little box I won’t be confined

Being by your dictates narrowly defined.

Why should I consider myself to be

Just as you seek to define me?

Without any labels to this Earth I came,

And till I leave here I’ll remain the same!
